Nottinghamshire keen to sign overseas batsman this month

Nottinghamshire have already done their business for the Natwest T20 Blast to be played in June this year, with two non English-qualified players Ish Sodhi and Dan Christian both are set to arrive at Trent Bridge.

Notts still need to add a marquee batsman to their ranks for County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup and keen to sign by the end of the month.

Mike Newell, who is a Director of cricket has revealed that an overseas batsman would require which has been delayed by the Indian Premier League auction process.

“We have decided to go for a batsman because we want to strengthen that area of the team. We have put in a couple of offers,” Newell said.

“It’s always difficult to make a move before the IPL auction because you just don’t know until after that has taken place who is going to be available.

“Ideally, we would like to have the player in place before the club’s annual general meeting on Monday, February 26, and that’s what we’re working to.”

Australian pacer James Pattinson and India’s right-handed batsman Cheteshwar Pujara were the two overseas players for the county championship and the one-day cup last season.

But given that the Trent Bridge outfit are now determined to sign one batsman before the end of February. It is expected that the new signing will be highly-rated and ready to fit into the top order when the season gets underway in April.
