IPL 2018: Kane Williamson to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson has been appointed as captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

The 27-year-old will replace David Warner, who has been banned by Cricket Australia for 12 months following his involvement in the ball tampering scandal.

The Australian trio Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft were all included in the incident, which happened on the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

As a result, BCCI have terminated Warner and Smith’s multi-million IPL contracts to feature in the IPL.

I’ve accepted the role to stand in as captain for this season,” the franchise cited Williamson as saying on Twitter. “It’s an exciting opportunity with a talented group of players. I look forward to the challenges ahead.”

The Sunrisers Hyderabad regained the services of the Kiwi after buying him for INR 3 crores at the IPL auction.

Sunrisers will begin their campaign against the Rajasthan Royals on April 9.
