Big Bash League: Mitchell Johnson joins Perth Scorchers

Former Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has joined the Perth Scorchers for this summer’s domestic Big Bash League.

The 34-year-old, who has played just three IPL games since retiring from Test cricket last year, had long been tipped to sign with Scorchers in recent weeks.

“I was never going anywhere else and always wanted to stay here and be part of the community,” Johnson said.

“To be able to play for the Perth Scorchers, where I live and where I’m based, is perfect for me.”

The left-arm pacer has played 112-game in his Twenty20 career that includes 132 wickets at an average of 25.10, making him a strong acquisition for the two-time BBL champions.

He is regarded as one of the most popular bowlers in Australia, having claimed 313 Test wickets, including 37 in the home Ashes in 2013-14.

The sixth edition of the Big Bash League gets underway later in December.
