Tottenham Plot Ambitious Swoop for Cody Gakpo

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo, with Dutch outlet Soccer News claiming Spurs are showing ‘serious interest’ in the 27-year-old ahead of the summer window.

Why Is Gakpo Available?

The Dutch international arrived at Anfield from PSV Eindhoven in 2023 and has since lifted both the Premier League title and the Carabao Cup. However, with Arne Slot reportedly set to depart, Gakpo is said to be open to a fresh challenge. Talks between Spurs, Liverpool, and the player’s camp have already taken place behind the scenes.

Despite an inconsistent 2024/25 campaign — nine goals and six assists in 52 appearances — Gakpo has still earned his spot in Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad for the upcoming World Cup.

What Would He Bring to Spurs?

Standing at 6ft 4in, Gakpo is a physically imposing left-winger with serious technical ability. He’s quick, direct, and capable of carrying the ball in tight spaces — the kind of profile that adds something different to any forward line.

Spurs’ left-wing options are threadbare right now. Wilson Odobert is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, while Mathys Tel is still too raw for a starting role. Randal Kolo Muani, currently on loan, is expected to return to PSG.

Liverpool are likely to hold out for big money — Transfermarkt values Gakpo at around £52m with his contract running until 2030. But if Spurs are serious about competing at the top, investing in a proven, peak-age Premier League attacker makes perfect sense.
