West Ham United are reportedly monitoring AC Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana as a potential summer signing, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport — and honestly, it’s a move that makes a lot of sense.

From Monaco Starlet to Milan Misfit?

Fofana rose to prominence during an impressive spell at Monaco, making 175 appearances for the club before sealing a switch to the San Siro in summer 2024. However, life in Serie A hasn’t quite gone to plan. He’s struggled to replicate his best Monaco form consistently, and the exit door is firmly ajar.

Several clubs came sniffing in January’s winter window, but Fofana stayed put — for now. With two years remaining on his contract, Milan have reportedly slapped a £25m price tag on the France international, which represents serious value in today’s inflated market.

The Souček Succession Plan?

West Ham’s current midfield options — Souček, Fernandes, Potts, Magassa and Kanté — are a mixed bag. Nuno Espírito Santo has leaned heavily on Souček and Fernandes, but with Tomáš Souček’s long-term future at the club uncertain, a ready-made replacement is desperately needed.

At 27, Fofana has the experience and physicality to slot straight into the Premier League. The Hammers face competition from Lyon and Marseille, but a move to London over Ligue 1 could prove far more appealing.
