Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to lock horns with AS Roma over the signature of Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Nico Elvedi.
Reports from Sport Italia suggest that the Swiss international is in high demand, with Tottenham and Roma both interested in signing the centre-back in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season, which has caught the attention of several clubs.
Roma boss Jose Mourinho is particularly keen on bringing Elvedi to the Italian capital, as he sees him as a potential replacement for the uncertain future of Chris Smalling.
Tottenham are also interested in signing the centre-back. The clubs’ manager Antonio Conte has highlighted the importance of bolstering their defence, despite having several options in that area.
Elvedi would be an ideal candidate for Spurs. The prospect of joining a top English club could be appealing to the Swiss defender, and Roma will hope that Tottenham’s interest in Elvedi is not serious, as they also want to sign him in the summer.
