Report – Chelsea lead race to sign Neymar
Chelsea have got themselves in pole position in the race for Paris Saint-Germain ace Neymar ahead of next season.
Football Insider suggests that the Blues are the top contender to acquire Brazilian for the upcoming season.
The West London outfit appears to be the sole English club with sufficient financial resources to secure the services of the PSG forward. It appears that Neymar’s future at the French capital is uncertain, and a move to England is probable.
The 31-year-old joined the Parisians in 2017 from Barcelona for a world-record fee of £200 million, and his contract with the club is set to expire in 2025. However, given the ongoing disagreements between the player and his current team, a departure in the summer seems likely.
During his time with PSG, Neymar has participated in a total of 173 matches, scoring 118 goals and providing 73 assists, making for a total of 195 goal contributions. These numbers demonstrate that his stint in France has been a resounding success statistically.
Chelsea new co-owner Todd Boehly has invested a substantial sum in acquiring players, with a focus on securing talented young individuals from around the world. Nonetheless, reports indicate that Boehly is poised to make a daring move by acquiring PSG’s Neymar.
Neymar’s addition to the team would enhance their attacking abilities, bringing a high degree of quality and media attention. Furthermore, his arrival could boost Chelsea’s income substantially.
Despite having already spent approximately £300 million in the January transfer window, the Blues are reportedly willing to invest an additional £80 million to secure Neymar’s services.
