Roger Federer pulls out of Rogers Cup

World number two Roger Federer has announced that he will not be participating at next month’s ATP tournament – Rogers Cup in order to focus on U.S. Open preparation.

The Swiss international has decided to pull out of the Rogers Cup tournament in order to get some rest and prepare for the 2015 U.S. Open, which starts on August 31.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion, who won the Rogers Cup twice – in 2004 and 2006 – has not competed since losing to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final earlier this month.

“I am disappointed that I won’t be playing in Montreal, because it’s a tournament and a city that I really enjoy and has incredible fans,” said Federer as reported by ESPN.

Jerzy Janowicz of Poland would be Federer’s replacement in the main draw of Rogers Cup, which gets underway on August 10 in Montreal.
