Aston Villa eye £50m move for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi amid defensive crisis

Aston Villa are reportedly considering a £50m bid for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his squad following a series of defensive setbacks.

Villa’s Defensive Woes Spark Urgency

Injuries to key centre-backs Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings, coupled with the departure of Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce, have left Villa short at the back. Additionally, young right-back Kosta Nedeljkovic has joined RB Leipzig on loan, while Matty Cash faces weeks on the sidelines.

Last week, reports suggested Villa had agreed personal terms with Disasi over a loan move, but fresh developments indicate they are now prepared to submit a £50m permanent offer.

Chelsea Open to Selling Disasi

Despite making 15 starts this season, Disasi has fallen down the pecking order under Enzo Maresca, with Trevoh Chalobah being recalled from loan at Crystal Palace. Chelsea were initially hesitant to strengthen a Champions League rival, but the lucrative fee could change their stance, especially given the club’s need to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations.

Financial Implications for Villa

Villa’s ability to finance the deal remains uncertain. They recently sold Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr for £64m but also took on a significant portion of Marcus Rashford’s wages in a loan deal with a £40m purchase option.

With Tottenham withdrawing from the race, Disasi’s preference appears to be Villa, but whether the Midlands club can finalise the deal remains to be seen.
