Paris Saint-Germain’s reported €95 million bid for William Saliba could push Arsenal’s resolve to the limit. The French club sees Saliba as a future cornerstone of their defence, potentially aiding in their elusive quest for Champions League glory.
While the bid could set a new world record for a central defender, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are expected to resist any temptation to sell, as Saliba has become integral to their defensive solidity alongside Gabriel Magalhaes.
Saliba, now one of the Premier League’s standout defenders, had a winding journey to reach this level at Arsenal. After joining from St Etienne in 2019, he had multiple loans in France before proving his worth to Arteta.
Arsenal values him highly and reportedly plans to negotiate a new contract next summer to secure his long-term future, especially as his contract enters its final two years. Despite PSG’s bold approach, Arsenal’s ambitions and their plans for Saliba likely outweigh even a record-breaking offer.
For now, it looks as though Arsenal will fight to keep their defensive mainstay firmly anchored at the Emirates.
