Aston Villa Set to Make a Move for Oscar Mingueza This Month
Aston Villa are reportedly targeting 25-year-old Spanish defender Oscar Mingueza from La Liga side Celta Vigo during the winter transfer window. Spanish journalist Marcos Benito revealed on El Chiringuito TV that the Villans have identified Mingueza as a potential signing as they look to strengthen their right-back position.
The Resurgence of Mingueza
Mingueza has enjoyed a career revival since leaving Barcelona in 2022. After a promising start at the Catalan club, his form dipped, leading to a free transfer to Celta Vigo. Since then, the versatile defender has made nearly 100 appearances for the Galician club, contributing four goals and eight assists.
His impressive performances have caught the attention of Spain’s national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, and he is now a contender for regular international call-ups.
Why Aston Villa Are Interested?
Aston Villa’s manager Unai Emery is keen on reinforcing the right-back position despite Matty Cash’s improved form. Mingueza’s ability to play across the backline makes him an appealing option. His €20 million release clause, as reported by Radio Galega via Estadio Deportivo, adds to his allure as a reasonably priced, experienced defender.
Competition for Mingueza’s Signature
While Villa are leading the chase, other clubs, including Barcelona, have shown interest in bringing Mingueza back to Camp Nou. The next few weeks will be pivotal in determining whether Mingueza opts for a return to La Liga’s elite or a move to the Premier League.
