Barcelona keen on Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo
Barcelona are reportedly intensifying their efforts to secure the signature of Manchester United teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old midfielder, currently representing England at Euro 2024, enjoyed a breakout season with the Red Devils, making 32 appearances, scoring five goals, and providing one assist.
Mainoo’s contributions were vital, particularly in the Premier League where he netted three goals and notched one assist in 24 games. His prowess was further highlighted in the FA Cup, where he scored twice in six appearances, including a memorable goal in the final against Manchester City, helping United clinch the trophy.
Despite being under contract at Old Trafford until June 2027, Manchester United are eager to extend Mainoo’s deal, offering him a significant pay rise to reflect his growing importance to the team. The Mancunian giants are determined to secure his future amidst burgeoning interest from European giants like Barcelona.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Barcelona are prepared to offer €10m (£8.5m) plus Brazilian forward Raphinha in a bid to lure Mainoo to Camp Nou. However, United are firmly engaged in contract negotiations with the player’s representatives, underscoring their resolve to keep hold of their homegrown talent.
Mainoo, who rose through United’s youth ranks and debuted for the first team in 2023, emerged as a rare bright spot in an otherwise challenging 2023-24 season for Erik ten Hag’s side. His performances not only earned him a regular spot in the squad but also a call-up to the England squad for the European Championship.
