Liverpool lining up move for Lois Openda
Liverpool are reportedly expressing strong interest in RB Leipzig’s striker Lois Openda, according to football journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The 23-year-old Belgian forward has made a significant impact in the Bundesliga, netting nine goals and showcasing his talent in the Champions League.
Openda’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with several top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, also eyeing the talented striker. However, Leipzig seem reluctant to part ways with Openda in the mid-season transfer window.
While Liverpool boasts one of the most potent attacking setups in English football, the potential addition of Openda or another quality striker like Victor Osimhen is not ruled out. Manager Jurgen Klopp might consider reinforcing the front line, especially with Darwin Nunez being the only potential area of improvement.
Yet, the pursuit of Openda may face obstacles due to his contract terms. Fabrizio Romano indicates an €80 million release clause, effective from 2025. Any attempt to secure Openda before then could incur a premium, potentially exceeding €100 million.
Despite the complexities involved, Liverpool remain in contention for Openda, and the club’s manager Klopp may explore striking options to enhance the team’s attacking prowess in the future. As the transfer saga unfolds, the 23-year-old remains a prized asset for RB Leipzig, with the club likely to demand a significant fee for his services.
