Chelsea step up Dean Henderson pursuit
Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on a deal for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, according to a report from Football Insider.
The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest where he has been impressing with his regular performances.
The England international has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and needed to go on loan to get regular game time. At this stage of his career, the stopper cannot afford to sit on the bench at a big club and needs to play regularly to fulfil his potential.
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can offer him the platform he needs in the 2023-24 seasons. The Blues have been using Kepa Arrizabalaga as their first-choice goalkeeper, and Edouard Mendy has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. Mendy is likely to leave in the summer, and Henderson is expected to replace him in the first team. However, Henderson would not want to be a backup option to Kepa, so it remains to be seen whether the West Londoners can provide him with assurances regarding game time.
Tottenham Hotspur’s long-serving goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has not been performing well this season and has cost the team valuable points with his error-prone displays. As a result, he might leave the club in the summer.
While Lloris remains an important member of the team, he can no longer expect to start regularly. Spurs will need to bring in a top-quality goalkeeper at the end of the season, and Dean Henderson fits the bill perfectly.
Chelsea may not be able to offer European football to Henderson next season, which could influence his decision.
