Australian skipper Steve Smith has been ruled out of the one-day international series to be held in New Zealand due to a minor ankle injury that he sustained in the ODI victory over Pakistan in Adelaide on Thursday.

The 27-year-old confirmed that he would not join the squad for the three-match series against New Zealand starting on Jan. 30.

Cricket Australia have not yet decided a replacement, stating that the National Selection Panel will be in discussion to name one later today.

Following the first ODI match in Auckland next Monday, the both sides will play further matches in Napier and in Hamilton on Feb. 2 and Feb. 5 respectively.

Australia’s squad: Pat Cummins, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Billy Stanlake, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wk), Adam Zampa
